Moiré is a visual perception that occurs when viewing 2 transparent or semi-transparent layers of lines or dots that are superimposed on one another. Typically this effect is unwanted in photography and/or electronic reproduction, but I really like how it produces interesting and beautiful patterns. The MOIRÉ series is a new addition to the B&W section in my shop and can be found here.
SUMMER LOTUS is a re-working of the original LOTUS series I did in 2013. Always in pursuit of geometry and abstract order I really just wanted to change the colour relations and the structure by refining the flower shapes and the background geometry. Here are both the first as well as the new LOTUS series.Thedorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10022683666480663943noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-326938999896785675.post-74909792266329075952017-03-24T08:43:00.001-06:002017-03-24T09:51:48.104-06:00LANDSCAPE & BEYOND

The LANDSCAPE & BEYOND series is an expression of how I see my life and art in relation to a sense of connectivity with the world around me. Living so close to the Rocky Mountains makes the mountains awfully difficult to ignore, especially when on any given day they look so completely different from the day before. Visit here to see the full series.
Black and white art and photography always adds a timeless quality and brings more focus to the contrast and textures rather than being distracted by colour. BOULEVARD is inspired by mid-20th century design using a colour palette that was inspired by the incredible set design of the show Hannibal which has an incredible moody and richly adorned mid century modern aesthetic. I really like how artists incorporated natural materials such as raw linen and canvas in mid century modern art and these materials were often used as backgrounds for modernist ceramic reliefs and inked metal plaque etchings. I have a few pieces around the house that are like that and I really felt compelled to try and emulate that aesthetic yet also keep it fairly contemporary. Kite flying was always one of my most favourite pastimes when I was a kid. Later on in life as an adult I upgraded to stunt kites which are extremely thrilling to fly as they require quick reflexes and strength. These stunt kites usually come in bright and bold contrasting colours which was part of the inspiration for this series.
Trying to capture the essence of ceramics from the 1950's through to the 1970's as well as art glass from that time period is how the TRANSCERAMIC series came about. Moving towards a slightly more modern, diagrammatic aesthetic, the ELETTRA series embodies randomness and chance via the use of lines and solid blocks of colours whilst still maintaining a purely mid century colour palette.Thedorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10022683666480663943noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-326938999896785675.post-75463741652751479712013-05-07T11:20:00.004-06:002015-09-09T14:40:03.908-06:00GLASS

From my ongoing GLASS series, this piece is inspired by beach glass. Being a beachcomber at heart, I love the mystery behind the origin of the glass you find on a beach. Perhaps a perfume bottle from Italy or a beer bottle from the 60's! Regardless, it is exciting to find and to look at. Aqua and blue were always my favourites.
